I first met Ian when he was a teenage student at the University of Leeds at the same time as Alison. It was in a communal student kitchen, and I thought that I might have detected a tiny hint of a twinkle passing between them. Sure enough they set about falling in love, and in the fullness of time post-University were married (with the full approval of their respective parents!)
The result of that union, among other things, was that I have three grandchildren of whom I am immensely proud.
